This exhibition brings together a selection of portraits and landscapes by award-winning Australian painter Daniel Butterworth, showcasing his distinctive and energetic approach to painting. Working from his studio in Kyneton, Victoria, Butterworth transforms everyday people, places and scenes into expressive works that reflect his evolving practice.

Butterworth’s practice is grounded in movement, spontaneity and experimentation. Working with everyday materials, including cardboard and house paint, he embraces the physical qualities of his materials. Cardboard markings, visible textures, paint dribbles and vigorous brushstrokes become an integral part of each work, creating a sense of rawness and a practice that is unmistakably his own.

The speed and freedom of Butterworth’s brushwork are particularly evident in his portraits.
